We've been getting a lot of rain here the last week. It kind of slows things down for me, because I can't do as much flying when it rains, nor can I get paid to help the neighbors do landscaping and yard work. I can't even go outside for a walk or a run to get exercise. I can stay inside and think about not smoking cigarettes, which seems to make me want cigarettes more. It's best not to think about it at all.
I'm sorry, this probably sounds like a downer, but I don't mean it to be, it's just that I've reached a point in my stay where I'm really beginning to miss home, and I mean Minneapolis and all my friends. Before I moved out here people would say things like, "When are you moving home?", and I could only reply by letting them know that Minnesota is my home, and just because my parents live in Idaho doesn't mean I'm from there. They only moved here five years ago, and they've been trying to get all their friends and family to follow them. But it is beautiful here.
Even though I'm the youngest person within 5 miles of where I live, I've been meeting some cool people and getting along with everyone. There is a neighbor down the street named Mitch who has an awesome sail boat and can't wait to get me out on the lake and teach me a thing or two about sailing. I'm not fighting this. As a matter of fact, I've been wanting to learn how to sail for the last three summers, so I'm ready.
I have been going out on long walks just about everyday, and haven't had any company until now. Honey is a 10 year old Golden Retriever, who belongs to Dave, a 75 year old man who doesn't get out to walk her much these days, so I was able to talk Dave into letting me take her. Even though she's getting old, she's still got a lot of energy, and she's the sweetest thing. Just like the sailing, I've been dreaming about getting a dog for years, but I just haven't been in stable enough to take care of one, so taking Honey on walks might be the next best thing.
In other news, I've been working with the Spokane community radio station KYRS to get my own show, and I'm getting closer. I'm working on my official proposal right now, and I've done some training on their editing software and studio equipment. I'm very excited about this!
Another thing I'm very excited about is that I'll be back in Minneapolis this weekend from Thursday the 25th through Sunday the 28th. I'm coming back for Lisa's birthday party which is a camping thing from Friday night to Sunday. Let me know if you want to come out for that, or if we can meet at all. I'll also be back in last week of August for the Great Minnesota Get Together!
About flying...
I've reached 7.4 hours of flight time, and I did my first landing last week. I'm feeling more comfortable with this with every try, so that's going well.
Cheers,
Jared
